Circumcision - child abuse?
In response to an article by Kevin Myers in the Irish Times that proposed that circumcision be banned, a Janet C Burke wrote a letter expressing surprise that the procedure is not offered as a routine procedure in Irish hospitals as it is in the United States where she is from. It seems odd to me that someone would want to have the hacking off of part of their son's penis be made a routine procedure in a hospital.
The notion that just because the Americans (and, of course, many many others) enjoy inflicting this perversion on their male children then we should too is bizarre. When it comes to this sort of stuff people's culture and religion should be simply ignored.....

As an American, I agree completely with you. It's barbaric and I can't understand how my fellow Americans continue to possess such a moral and logical blind spot.
