Renault Scenic II Headlight - stupidity

OK, this is not earth shattering but......

A bulb blew on one of the headlights on our Renault Scenic. No big deal. I bought a new bulb and headed home.... I looked under the bonnet (hood) and could see no way of accessing the headlights. I checked in the owner's manual only to find that Renault "recommend that the bulbs be changed at the dealer". Bastards. So apart from the massive inconvenience of it I will have to pay about €75 every time a bulb blows. Fantastic. I Googled and found that I am not alone - many other freaks like me have ranted about it too. It's a total scam designed to make money for the dealers....

28/11/05 Update - OK, in fairness the dealer in Sandyford only charged €10 to make the change and did it in about 5 minutes.....

When a bulb went in my powerful and distinctive Nissan Almera, it didn't even occur to me to change it myself.

I just drove it to Windsor and waited like a dutiful consumer.

Mind you, they only charged for the bulb.

Hello.
I have the same problem. How did they do it for 10 Euros? My dealer is wanting to charge £90!

That's just what they charged. Only takes ten minutes to do. Either there is some other problem with your car or your dealer is ripping you off big time.

erm you are kidding me, takes me 5 mins to do it myself. Just pull the black cover off and undo the wee hook clip.

OK, either I'm stupid or you have very flexible arms! (don't answer that one). I'll give it another try next time. Was yours the right or the left headlight?

My Renault Scenic (2003) leaks badly in front passenger footwell after heavy rain. The dealer puts it down to leaves clogging up the internal gutters..Okay, it is parked outside but this seems a real cop out. Any experience with similar design flaws?

About this leak problem.
I own a VW Golf IV and I will buy a scenic II in a few days, so I got here by searching for possible problem I may have.
My VW had this problem due to a broken cover of the box where is the air condition cabin filter. The man who did 30.000 km service changed this cabin filter but he broke the cover of the filter box, se when it rained I had water into the internal, at the front right side

Mine doesn't leak badly but rainwater does get trapped in the ddors and when you open them afterwards the water flows out onto the ground. This is obviously bad as it means the drainage is not working and will lead to corrosion eventually.

It is common sense that if the water is running out of the doors, the drainage is working properly, otherwise it would still be in the door... Also if the drain channels are blocked below the windscreen it has been known to leak into the footwell at passenger side.
The headlight design on the Scenic II is not designed as a scam to make money for the dealers. It is possible to change the bulb yourself, and some dealers will do free of charge. The design is to use space as effieciently as possible as well as the car to be asthetically pleasing.(also to do with accident safety) However, everything in the scenics is easily accessible if the person carrying out work knows how to dismantle the car as necessary.
