Sunrise, Dublin Airport

Sunrise, Dublin Airport, originally uploaded by ShankillFalls.

Sending your wife and 9 month old son on a flight to Texas on the day that Hurricane Rita was due to strike certainly raised a few eyebrows but we had bought the ticket...... (the worst part was getting up at 0545hrs to to go to the damn airport)

The photo was taken through the windows of the departures level using the camera phone that all the recent pictures on this page were taken with, a Nokia 3230. It's a good camera for a phone (1.2 megapixel) but the phone itself is very slow. Should have looked at those processor specs before buying......

The National Car Test

I hate the NCT. I have NEVER passed it on the first time. The whole thing is a money making scam, not to generate profits for those running the test, but to give more money to those b'stards in the SIMI who lobbied for its introduction and whose members benefit the most.

Evening Hysterical

Evening Hysterical, originally uploaded by ShankillFalls.

Dublin's only evening newspaper takes a balanced approach towards an official strike by union members at the ESB over the use of contract workers.

Katrina, Natural Disaster or Capitalist Failure

OK, I accept that the levees were underfunded due to the Bush regime's insane "war on terror" and that the US's refusal to even contemplate driving cars that get more than 10 miles to the gallon may have contributed to the problem, however I think it a little over the top to blame the entire disaster on a "Capitalist Failure". But I do like the idea.....

Death Toll in New Orleans

Why is this not being discussed (much)?

It seems odd to me that very little mention of the numbers of dead are being mentioned. Is it hundreds, thousands or tens of thousands. As the tsunami story unfolded there was a constant emphasis on the death toll with new figures for each effected country coming out daily. But from the US we are hearing nothing. Seems strange. I have heard (Sky News, so probably not true) that they intend using the SuperDome as a mortuary once they manage to get the refugees out of there and sent to Texas (which seems to be where everybody is going).
